Liposuction surgery

Dr. Kapoor's cosmetic surgery clinic offers a full range of cosmetic surgical procedures.

Liposuction is a procedure that can help body sculpting by removing unwanted fat from specific areas, including the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees, upper arms, chin, cheeks and neck.

There are many techniques, including ultrasound-assisted lipoplasty (UAL), the tumescent technique, and the super-wet technique, that help a plastic surgeon to provide patients with more precise results with quicker recovery times.

While exercise and dieting may be useful for losing unwanted weight and fat, some fat deposits are very resistant and may not respond to efforts at weight loss. Applying liposuction techniques may be an option in these situations. Liposuction is not a shortcut alternative to exercise and diet.

It is a form of body contouring and not a weight loss method. The amount of fat removed varies by doctor, method, and patient, but the average amount is typically 3-5 liters.

The best candidates for liposuction are normal-weight people with firm, elastic skin with excess fat in certain areas. Though age is not a major consideration, older patients may have decreased skin elasticity and may not achieve the same results as a younger patient.

In liposuction localized deposits of fat are removed to recontour one or more areas of the body. Through a tiny incision, a narrow cannula is inserted and used to suction out the fat layer beneath the skin. The cannula is pushed and pulled through the fat layer, breaking up the fat cells and suctioning them out. The suction action is provided by a vacuum pump or a large syringe, depending on the surgeon's preference and area of surgery.

After surgery, some fluid drainage from the incisions is expected to control swelling and to help your skin retract and better fit its new contours; patient is fitted with a snug elastic garment to wear over the treated area for a few weeks. Some of the side effects include pain, burning, swelling, bleeding and temporary numbness. Pain can be controlled with medications.
